The Marciano Art Foundation is proud to open a permanent Genesis STEAM Education Innovation Lab inside of the Foundation's Space in Los Angeles.
Beginning in March 2018 the Marciano Art Foundation will welcome students from across LA County into its state-of-the-art GENESIS learning innovation lab, located adjacent to the Ballroom Gallery on the top floor of the foundation. GENESIS champions STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) learning, which underscores the importance of arts education as a central tenant of STEM's previously established focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The partnership will serve to extend MAF's reach beyond its walls and will connect the foundation to classrooms and communities around the globe.
The Marciano Art Foundation is proud to be GENESIS' first institutional partner - a partnership that allows for progressive and contemporary educational opportunities in a dynamic, creative, and innovative space where students will have the chance to think outside the box and take a more participatory role in their learning process. The embedded lab brings the GENESIS model on-site to provide local students with full access to the Foundation's various resources.
Through their partnership with the Marciano Art Foundation, GENESIS will provide hands-on experiences that combine critical, design-based ways of thinking and project-based learning to give underserved students opportunities to apply their skills to real life, modern day 21st century challenges. GENESIS founder and executive director, Sheri Schlesinger, adds, "We're thrilled to partner with The Marciano Art Foundation to establish a permanent lab inside the foundation's iconic and unique space. I look forward to working with the MAF team to further our mission to create enriching and revolutionary educational opportunities for Los Angeles area children."
Foundation co-founder Maurice Marciano echoes, "We have always imagined the Marciano Art Foundation as more than just the display of art objects. With the GENESIS STEAM education lab, we are extending the idea of what an institution can be and how it can improve the community. I look forward to welcoming school children to the Foundation to experience both the artworks on view and be afforded the extraordinary educational opportunities that GENESIS has pioneered."

GENESIS' unique approach includes project-based learning supported by mentors & guest speakers, ranging from artists to leaders in STEAM-related industries.
GENESIS programs reach and engage students who have been left out of the fast-moving STEAM revolution by fostering an inclusive and multi-faceted learning approach that lets all students connect to STEAM learning according to their passion, interests, and personal learning style. Equally essential to the GENESIS mission is our teacher-support and community programming. GENESIS provides STEAM curriculum kits and professional development workshops featuring educators, scientists, artists, and technology companies to increase accessibility of engaging, high quality STEAM education using the latest media and online learning platforms.
GENESIS is launching, together with prestigious museum partners, a national network of museum-based STEAM Innovation Labs that will bring together technology and art to power the next phase of the STEAM education revolution, reaching tens of thousands of students nationwide.
