Actress Rosie Cavaliero reads 'To the Sea' by Philip Larkin, featuring paintings by David Edmond

We hope you're all having a wonderful Summer. As we ease into the last bank holiday of the year, we celebrate the British beachscape in this short video featuring Philip Larkin's poem, To the Sea, read by actress Rosie Cavaliero showcasing some of David Edmond's acutely observed beach paintings that capture the pure joy of beach life in all its many forms.

This series of beach paintings was recently featured in Coast magazine. In the article, journalist Carol Burns notes how David perfectly captures the "interaction, quirks and eccentricities of humanity that take place within a beach setting", offering "a fascinating insight into human behaviour". You can read the article in full here.
David’s pathway to painting has been rich and varied. He originally studied a Furniture Design BA at Leicester Polytechnic followed by a Printed Textile Design MPhil at the Royal College of Art London. He began painting in 2009 and, between 2014-16, attended the Turps Banana Painting Programme in South London.
Since then, David's work has been included in several exhibitions, including The Beep Painting Biennial, 2022, the Royal Academy Summer shows of 2019, 2020 and 2022, the Creekside Open, 2019, the Columbia Threadneedle Prize, 2018, the Lynn Painter Stainer Prize, 2017, the Discerning Eye, 2016, Arcade Fine Arts, 2016, Turps – Art Bermondsey Project Space, 2016, and the Clifford Chance Annual Pride Art Exhibition, 2015. David’s work continues to be bought by national and international collectors.
