Hier finden Sie die deutsche FassungWelcome to our 2022 Review! We want to take a moment at the end of this turbulent year to celebrate our artists. As we still continue to adjust to the new conditions, it is also a moment to highlight the staying power of art and the importance of remaining connected. In what follows we present internal and external projects by our artists and a selection of this year's publications.

A particular cause for celebration for the gallery was to finally give a brick-and-mortar face to our longstanding relationship with the Korean art community. After years of fostering exchange and deepening our friendship/relationships, our first location in Asia opened in early September, on occasion of the first Frieze Seoul.

Esther Schipper Seoul is situated in the Geyonglidan-street area of central Seoul in a newly renovated building designed by studioMDA. The Gyeonglidan area has recently emerged as a central hub for the Korean art scene with both international and emerging Korean contemporary galleries relocating there.

The idea of the dedicated space follows a core commitment to creating conversations and interactions between cutting edge, historically significant art and our local and international audiences. The space features two intimate showrooms, two offices and a rooftop deck with expansive views of the Namsan area.

For the inauguration, we presented a selection of new and important works by artists of the gallery across the three floors of the building. In the future we will also have small exhibitions, such as our recent presentation of works by Tino Sehgal and Philippe Parreno, in cooperation with the Ob/Scene Festival.

Another location dear to the gallery's heart now has a home: Paris. Having spent formative years in the French capital, Esther Schipper was delighted to find a special location for her first gallery in France. The Paris gallery which opened this October is located in the heart of the 1st arrondissement, in the interior courtyard at 16 Place Vendôme.

The 100-square-meter-large office and exhibition space constitute an exclusive venue for exhibitions by the gallery artists. Besides a long-standing personal connection of Esther Schipper with Paris, the new location further supports our Paris-based artists and French institutional projects of all gallery artists.

In the coming years the Paris gallery will host an exciting program of intimately scaled exhibition projects. Inaugurated with works by Etienne Chambaud, currently a selection of new, recent, and historical works by Ceal Floyer is on view through February 4th, 2023. In late February an exhibition of works by Thomas Demand will open concurrent with the artist’s major presentation at the Jeu de Paume. April will see an exhibition by Nathan Carter who at the same time is presenting works related to his new artist book with Dan Estabrook at Three Star Press.

Even as we are thrilled to be able to have in-person exhibitions again, the importance of connecting via social media and the internet remains crucial and so in September we re-launched our website to offer a more dynamic, informative, and, we hope, entertaining experience. This link takes you to our special selection of exhibitions—presented via our website. We hope you enjoy it and perhaps will stay and browse.
